So, this is my Dad's 2005 Ford Taurus SE wagon. Vulcan V6, not the 24V Duratec :(
It's not the most beautiful thing the world has ever seen, nor the best car by any measure, but I'm rather attached to it, simply because it's taken us everywhere, all over BC and Alberta, as well as being the car I usually drive. Now, she wasn't always very good at taking us everywhere, but now we've had a lot of work done, and it's a pretty great road trip vehicle. Here's what's been done:
-Electrical harness replacement
-ECU replacement
-Full transmission rebuild with better cooling ports, a mild shift kit, and transmission cooler
-Light pickup springs and KYB gas-a-just shocks in the rear
-Ceramic brakes
-New exhaust with freer-flowing cat
So yeah, more money than most people would put into a Taurus :p
This is the car I learned to drive in, so when my dad gets a new car, despite all reason telling me it's a bad idea, I plan on keeping this car for a while to come.
Bonus: The sad fate of my old E34 Touring….
Just to keep with the wagon-ness

While you are normally correct, I know someone who can unfortunately top that with his 2004 duratec SEL sedan.
23mm SHO rear swaybar
adjustable derlin bushings in the upper control arms
KYB GR2 struts
rear disc brake conversion
Tubular lower control arms
The car itself, with 142k miles on it

Jesus, he isn't trying to make it handle is he…?
What we've done is just to make it hold up over fairly harsh mountain roads, dirt logging roads and everywhere else it needs to go for my dad to take pictures. Our suspension work was simply to increase load capacity….

But that's seriously impressive for 142k miles

No, he just wanted to make the suspension not suck, it was his daily driver up until 3 days ago, now its just his wife's car.

Fair enough, ours is comfy enough for a long-distance cruiser, but since it's used as a daily as well, it's be nice if it would, you know, go around corners :p Engine bay shot doesn't show up for me

stupid spellcheck, didn't even see what it did with duratec :p the vulcan is uninspired, but it's pretty bulletproof at least
